what ice does when exposed to the sun is a project about the longing for summer by Trondheim’s inhabitants in wintertime. Walking around town and talking to people will always turn into stories about the summertime; the colors, the warmth and the amount of light. In a city that is already so beautiful in the wintertime, a visitor can only imagine how the summer would be like. what ice does when exposed to the sun is a project about the places I, as a resident, have not seen because it is not summertime.
Using a 1934’s photoalbum of a roadtrip through Norway, I selected only the pictures of people waiting or looking out for something. By colouring these, I try to imagine what it must feel like to long for the colors and the warmth of summer. Projecting this back into the city, will give me the opportunity to collect these stories, and ask people to tell a story about the places I would have gone to, if it were summer, and how this would feel. what ice does when exposed to the sun is about summer as much as it is about winter. It is a way to connect people with it’s surroundings and to experience the moment while making a non-existing summer experience in and around Trondheim.
