Das Astronomische Jahr(Astronomical Year) is an interactive application for an exhibition. It explains the basics of our time system. The installation consists of a round, rotatable table top with a diameter of 90 cm and a projector, which projects animated information graphics onto the table top.
The application is divided into six chapters: Day and Night, Time Zones, Moon Way, Phases of the moon, Seasons and Ecliptic. The user can browse the chapters menu by rotating the table top. By pressing the table top, he enters the selected chapter.
Inside of a chapter the turning speed of the table top corresponds to the speed of the animation. To stop the animation, the user stops the table top, to make the animation faster, he turns the table top faster and to rewind the animation, he turns the table top in opposite direction. By pressing the table top again, the user leaves the chapter and gets back to the menu.
The project was designed by Benedikt Weiß, Paul Wortberg and David Jacobsen at HfG Schwäbisch Gmünd.
