We've been experimenting with timelapse photography for some time, and occasionally use the technique on client work. We produced this short to be screened at a film festival, with Moby's permission to use his music.
Photography was spread over eight weeks with one week of post-production to transform the stills into moving image.
Motion control was employed for a few of the shots. Pans and tilts were achieved with a motorised tripod for telescopes, designed to track stars as they move slowly across the sky. Tracking shots were achieved manually on a Glidetrack. Using just a simple tape measure as a guide we nudged the camera 1mm between every frame photographed.
