In 2010, I was invited to perform at the Irigaray Circle Conference, held at the Bartlett School of Architecture in London, and to exhibit videos of my personas in a group exhibition called “Whirlwinds”. At the conference, I staged a 2-hour performance along a bank of chairs. On each of the chairs I assembled belongings, such as clothes and other personal items that identified the personas Activista, Proper One, Tarantella, Magda, and Efrosini. Every half hour I exchanged clothing, accessories and media to embody a different persona. I engaged, in character, with intrigued passersby’s in one-on-one interactions. This excerpt focuses on my interaction with a participant named Juliana, who met me as “Magda”. Direct social engagement with attendees and students from the school was a means to exercise a process I have developed extensively, and which I envision for future projects.
