'Prometheus Awakes' was premiered on Friday 22nd June during the Greenwich + Docklands International Festival. One of the first of 12,000 performances of the London 2012 Festival 'Prometheus Awakes' was surely one of the most spectacular.
The London 2012 Festival is the culmination of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad that provides an artistic complement to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Presented by London's Graeae Theatre Company and Catalan La Fura dels Baus thousands of spectators stood transfixed as the giant figure of Prometheus stalked the lawns of the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich.
This reinterpretation of the ancient Greek myth was Graeae's biggest outdoor show to date and the largest outdoor performance led by deaf and disabled artists.
The courage and ability of artists and volunteers impressed everyone as they performed high above the ground suspended from a crane, powered a human wheel or, as part of the spectacular finale, formed a human wall in the sky.
