Hiking from Waiau Ridge to Waimalu Valley on Oahu, Hawaii on June 10th, 2012. Twelve hours. Fourteen miles. Two groups. Starting from the top of Aiea Heights drive in Aiea, one group ascended Aiea Ridge and traveled northwest along the Ko'olau summit ridge; from the top of Ka'ahumanu Street in Waiau, our group ascended Waiau Ridge and hiked southeast along the Ko'olau summit ridge. The destination and rendezvous point for both our groups would be the summit of Waimalu Middle Ridge and its vast, lush meadow. Both groups then descended Waimalu Middle Ridge together to the bottom of Waimalu Valley and crossed Waimalu Stream ten times by following the Waimalu Ditch trail to the top of Onikniki Place in Waimalu.
