The Mizizi Project, conceived and designed by my non-profit, e2 education & environment (http://www.e2education.org), is an interactive distance-learning program designed to connect students from the Packer Collegiate Institute, an independent preparatory school in Brooklyn, New York, with the Sereolipi Primary School in northwest Kenya, through a shared earth science and sustainability curriculum.
Over the course of the program, students will use videoconferencing to collaborate and interact as virtual lab partners. These synchronous, shared, and interconnected learning experiences will be conducted by the New York Hall of Science (NYSCI). In addition, students will engage in off-line (asynchronous) collaborative activities structured to strengthen scientific proficiency while deepening cross-cultural understanding. This combination of synchronous and asynchronous educational methodologies, combined with the involvement of a renowned museum and learning center, make The Mizizi Project’s model unique in the delivery of an interactive distance-learning curriculum.
