Every summer during the months of August and September, shark derbies, or shark fishing tournaments, are held in a number of small coastal communities across Nova Scotia, Canada. Although shark derbies in Nova Scotia are becoming increasingly popular, many people are still not aware of these events or even that shark occur in Canadian waters.

This short documentary is an exploration of these events to answer the key questions at hand: What are these events? What do they mean for small coastal communities? Are they contributing to overall decline in shark populations? Are they sustainable?
