David Wax, Suz Slezak and Greg Glassman of the David Wax Museum perform "Chuchumbe" a son jarocho-style song from the band’s album "Everything Is Saved".
The word “Chuchumbe” supposedly traces its roots back to Sengal where it perhaps meant "bellybutton.” In Mexico, the song was banned by the Catholic Church in 1766 for suggestive lyrics and was lost until it was rediscovered 25 years ago in an archive.
From Senegal, to Mexico and now perhaps for the first time in China, David Wax Museum takes to the streets of Suzhou for this impromptu performance of Chuchumbe during a tour in March 2012.
