Perpetual Canon is an installation for a Yamaha Disklavier player piano that renders music as visual forms. Each note played by the pianist shoots up as a digital "canon ball" and replays the original note with the same intensity as it falls back down into the key. Inspired by the musical canon, where a melody is imitated by one or more voices at fixed intervals of pitch and time, Perpetual Canon transforms playing into spatial figures and back again into an echo of the original gesture, creating a counterpoint of physical and virtual, analog and digital.
