Piano and Soprano performance inside tsunami damaged church in Ishinomaki, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan
4 May 2012
Part of Light Projection Ceremony, an audio responsive artwork by Richard Byers, collaborating with local musicians and people from Ishinomaki.
This performance was held with the nearby Kitakami river flooding due to excessive rain in the previous few days, a strong reminder of the days after the tsunami on 11 March 2011 which heavily damaged the 130 year old wooden church located on the small island Nakaze at the mouth of the river to the ocean. The church had a 6m tsunami and 3 water level marks remain on the inside walls of the building. The 3 levels were inspiration for the with audio responsive projected light artwork.
