The end of a sea crossing is the beginning of a new life for the director/narrator of this documentary. He returns to his native Ecuador aboard a cargo ship inhabited by a group of men who little by little become familiar with the camera and tell us their stories. Most of the sailors are Filipinos and there is something captivating about their spirit: perhaps it is their secretiveness, their initial reluctance towards the camera or to the filmmaker who wants to invade the private space where feelings, memories and desires get confused. Perhaps because the cabin is too small and the sea too vast, the sailors prefer silence. Solid Ocean is a lyrical reflection that floats on the impregnable depths of the human ocean.
