When i was in Brazil i met a German traveler who was staying in a favela in Salvador. He discovered a band of youngsters playing buckets and tins. Warming to them, he learned about the community these boys live in; Murder, drug trafficking, gun violence are all weekly occurrences. Sadly, it's not something that is likely to improve... especially as the police are trigger happy and drug dealing is the best way to make money. The education system does not benefit the poor either. Opportunities to get out of this environment and do something other than drug dealing are very small.
George saw talent in the band and bought them all their first instruments. He wanted to help them chase the dream of being famous musicians. A ticket out of the favela.
George Viet... Massive karma to you my friend. "O Ghetto!" RULE!
