Spanning the townships of Highland and White lake, Michigan, the Highland State Recreation Area is a wonderful natural preserve of over 5,000 acres of rolling glacier-sculpted forest lands that embody the beauty of some of Michigan's most precious landscapes. So much so that it has been designated a National Natural Landmark area.
Winter in the Haven Hill section of the park (once the former estate lands of Henry Ford's only son Edsel, and daughter-in-law Eleanor) is both beautiful and sinister. Cold temperatures and high winds can prove to be a source of misfortune for the unready spectator, and yet the keen eye of a well-prepared visitor can see beauty all around in this harsh winter environment.
The footage in this video was gathered in the winter of 2012... which was not, by Michigan standards, a harsh winter season.
