Hiking from Pupukea Heights to Laie Town along the Ko'olau Summit Trail on Oahu, Hawaii on June 24th, 2012. Nine-and-a-half hours. Thirteen miles. The route along the KST from Pupukea to Laie is an overgrown and muddy slog through a seemingly endless amount of uluhe fern and strawberry guava, with remote and scenic vantage points overlooking the north and northeastern coastlines over vast, undeveloped landscapes. To end our hike in Laie, we descended the Malaekahana Ridge trail. The Pupukea to Laie section of trail was the initial segment KST segment of a historic backpacking excursion from Pupukea to Makapu'u completed by Chase Norton in April 2012.
