MIK YAJIMA ARTWORKS Production Scene Series
いつの頃からか、ふとした瞬間染織の道を目指そうと思った。何故そう思ったか、今でも不思議に思っている。
ある時、田舎の倉を探索しているうち、綿の種を取り除く”みくり”という道具を見つけた。持ち主は曽祖母、機を織っていたのだという。よく探してみると筬や杼などの織の小道具や着尺の裂が見つかった。
彼女の死後、戦争を挟み織機は取り壊され、周りの途切れとぎれの記憶から想像することしか出来なかったがその斬新な色やデザインから推察するに、単に生活の為だけではなくむしろ楽しんで唄いながら機織りをしていた節がある。あの時、あの瞬間―あれは彼女の糸引きだったのだろうか。
そして私は地元高知に戻るたび、かつて彼女がそうしたように草木の糸を取る。作風が年々変わり、取り巻く環境が変化しても、あの日の瞬間は忘れない。
At some point, I suddenly decided to aim for Textile field in my school days.
I still wonder why I thought so.
One day, while exploring a rural warehouse, I found a tool called "Mikuri - cotton gin" that removes cotton seeds. The owner was my great grandmother who was a weaver. When I looked around carefully, I found few weaving tools such as yarn guide, shuttles, and cracks of Kimono.
After her death, the weaving-loom was torn down during the World War Ⅱ. From the discontinuous memories of my family, seeing from her novel color and designed Kimono, I could imagine that she seems to have been enjoying weaving with singing not only earning a living expenses.
At that moment - was it her invisible strings?
After that, every time I go back to my birthplace Kochi, I used to take plants fiber threads as she once did. Even if my style changes year by year and the surrounding environment changes, I will never forget that moment.
2003年、呉服業界から転身しフリーランスの身となり、
初めてコミッションワークの依頼を受けてから10年を迎える。
最初の仕事はとあるデザイナーのデザインしたアートワークを具現化するといういわば職人的な仕事だった。駆け出しの頃であれば誰しもが似たような経験を持つであろう制作者の権利が保証されない後味の悪い仕事。
しかしながら、その後私はどれ程の良き理解者に恵まれてきたのであろうか。
図面の見方も知らない私に”図面の上を歩く”ことを教えてくださった設計者。年若い異国のアーティストにご自身のホテルで思う存分制作の場を与えてくださった Lee会長。発注のない頃、企画商品MIKA YAJIMA FRAMESの販売を快くひきうけてくださった人々。思いもかけない妊娠で大きなお腹を抱えて多くの人々の協力を得て出産の10日前まで制作を続けた日々。乳飲み子を抱えたマザーアーティストを変わらず起用してくださった善良なるクライアントやオーナー達。
In 2003, 10 years have passed since I first became a freelance by leaving from the kimono company and to have got a commission artwork request. The first request was just a part time job of providing techniques for the artwork that designed by a designer. There was unpleasant experience that does not guarantee the rights of creations that will have similar experiences in early career for young creators.
However, how blessed I have been since then?
There was an architect who taught me "walking on a drawing" even if I didn't know how to read the drawing. The chairman Mr. Lee gave a younger foreign artist a lot of place for artworks in his hotel. There were people who were willing to sales MIKA YAJIMA FRAME products when I have not any job. During those days when I continued creation until 10 days before giving birth, besides the cooperation of many people while having a big stomach with an unexpected pregnancy. And it is honor that gentle clients and owners are still continuing to request order-artworks for mother artist.
前例の少ない未知の分野で手探りながら細々と活動を続けることが出来たのはひとえに貴方がたの崇高な精神に守られて育てていただいたから..
