The Waldo Canyon Fire was an unprecedented natural disaster that affected over 18,000 acres of land. It has been deemed the most destructive fire in the state of Colorado’s history with 346 homes burned and 2 lives lost. This time has been an extremely trying experience for the entire Colorado Springs community.
On Saturday, June 23rd, Eagle Lake was evacuated as the fire began to spread rapidly as a result of high winds. Over the course of the next several days the fire eventually reached camp, where a team of 75 fire fighters stood ready to protect the property. The events of that week are told here by Executive Director, Jack McQueeney, as he recounts the incredible story of how the Waldo Canyon Fire impacted Eagle Lake Camps and the Glen Eyrie Conference Center.
By nothing short of a miracle, our losses during this time were incredibly minimal, and we are forever grateful for the hand of God and the work of the firefighters who tirelessly protected our camp.
