That's my brother!
Hey! What's up, Silas Beebe?
My brother, Silas, arrived at Sundown on his award-winning, super duper bicycle. So I asked him about it.
What I didn't get in the interview (because I'm an impatient little brother and an amateur reporter) is that the bicycle was a collaboration between Silas and Rob Tsunehiro. Si designed it and Rob built it. And together they won second place at last year's Oregon Manifest "Ultimate Utility Bike for Modern Living" competition. That's a big deal in these parts.
It's also the world's first bike with a retro-reflective (read very reflective) painted frame. It practically glows in the dark. Here is an image: flickr.com/photos/sbeebe/6852285522/
It has an elongated frame to fit a passenger (or lots of stuff) on the back and to smooth out the ride. It has a bunch of other cool features, but I'll let you holler at my brother to learn more.
Silas is an industrial designer in our home town, Portland, Oregon.
