Kees Christiaanse's KCAP has worked on the most high profile and complex urban design schemes in the Netherlands. In offices spanning Rotterdam, Zurich and Shanghai, Christiaanse and his team develop ideas of what a city should be. Their designs range from small schools to the planning of large-scale urban redevelopments. Here at the Eastern Trade Dock in Amsterdam, Christiaanse led the transformation of an industrial part of the city into a modern one.
KCAP's notions on good urban planning have gained them numerous assignments all over the world. At the heart of the KCAP philosophy is a humanistic approach to designing the city; how to create possibilities for encounters between people. This idea was one of the challenges in the old harbour of Hamburg were KCAP master planned a transition of an old industrial area into the brand new Hafencity.
