"Soul Food Junkies"
A New Film by Byron Hurt
Food traditions are hard to change, especially when they are passed on from generation to generation. In this award-winning documentary, filmmaker Byron Hurt shares his journey to learn more about the African American cuisine known as soul food. Through candid interviews with soul food cooks, historians, and scholars, as well as doctors, family members, and everyday people, "Soul Food Junkies" blends history, humor, and heartwarming stories in this intimate film about food, family, and tradition.
"Soul Food Junkies" will broadcast nationally on PBS' Emmy Award Winning Series Independent Lens in January 2013.
"Soul Food Junkies" is a co-production of God Bless the Child Productions, LLC and Independent Television Service (ITVS), in association with the Ford Foundation and the National Black Programming Consortium, with funding by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB).
