Since the inception of Liberty State Park in 1976 private developers and corporations have coveted parkland meant to be a gift to the people. “The Point” is a documentary highlighting park advocates, developers, legislators and local members of the community sharing their perspectives for the future of the park. Set specifically on a peninsula in Liberty State Park, Caven Point is a raw costal shoreline serving as a bird sanctuary and an oasis of Jersey City. Located next to an ultra-exclusive golf course with intent to expand 3 golf holes on this land. This is where the film begins and it evolves into a deeper conversation of environmental justice, multigenerational values, and varying perspectives on the parks future. Upcoming legislation will once and for all define the future for Liberty State Park. As both sides push for their own vision, Director Derin Thorpe is currently documenting this process as it unfolds.
