Deciding to come on the World Race was a decision largely prompted by Donald Miller. I was reading his book, A Million Miles in a Thousand Years as I was mulling over the decision, and somewhere in between descriptions of what it takes to live a really good story- my mind was made up.
So when it came time for raising support- and for me, making a video- I figured, who better to narrate my video than Donald himself? After all, this whole crazy thing was his idea wasn’t it?
What I didn’t realize I was doing at the time was speaking something out prophetically.
We talk about this a lot out here, but in Ezekial 37, God tells Ezekial to prophecy to the valley of dry bones and to call them to life.
Ezekial calls this valley of dry bones something that it isn’t yet, but by calling it ‘alive’ that’s what it becomes.
“… the God who gives life to the dead and calls things that are not as though they were.”
In signing up for the World Race, I had absolutely no idea what I was getting myself into. But somewhere, deep down, I must have understood that this was going to be a year of staggering transformation in my life.
And so I called it that.
My support video talked about living a good life, and stepping out into a good story knowing that you’re about to be transformed.
And it was that video that kicked this year into high gear for me.
I’ve been radically transformed this year and made into a person that I could have only dreamed about becoming as I was considering this journey so long ago.
Well… a year later, I’m stepping out of the World Race and into another season. I’m more excited for this next season than I was for the race, and I cannot WAIT to see what God has in store.
I needed to make this video for me. This quote, this call to action, the music that gets your heart pumping and your mind dreaming are things that I want to be the bookends on this year- something that marks the beginning and another beginning.
Because although my year as a ‘World Racer’ is coming to a close, my adventure with the greatest storyteller of all time is just beginning.
My world has been rocked in this season in the best way I could have ever imagined. But it’s not over.
I’m going to speak to this next season and call it blessed, call it an adventure and call it just as transformative and just as incredible as the last.
And who better to remind me of what I’m doing and why than Donald himself?
And as much as this video was for me… it’s also for you! It’s a reminder that life is fantastic and exciting and sparkly and terrifying all at the same time.
Take this video as a sign, should you be looking for one.
God has something MIRACULOUS for you to do in His Kingdom, if only you’ll say yes.
You are chosen, you are anointed and appointed to do something great.
God created you, YOU, in your pajamas-you, to make a difference in this world.
He’s given you passions and skills and environments to shift and atmospheres to change.
He’s given you a calling and a purpose and a part in the best story ever told.
Your calling isn’t a tiny little path that is hidden by bushes and easy to wander off of. Don’t get caught up in what it is specifically… just answer yes. Always answer yes.
Go. Speak up. Speak out. Shout. Sing. Dance. Paint. Donate. Pray. Profess. Confess. Love.
Do whatever it is that He’s asking you to do.
And you can be sure that if you’re on the right path- you’re probably going to be a bit afraid.
You’re probably going to look at what’s coming and have a sinking feeling that you’re absolutely too small for what He’s putting in front of you.
The Israelites said they felt like tiny grasshoppers compared to their enemy. (Numbers 13:33)
But in response- God tells us,
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified, do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)
Being in the center of God’s will feels a lot like falling in love. You are pretty sure you might be crazy, and you look around thinking ‘this is either the best thing in the entire world, or I’m about to be crushed.’ And you’re not quite sure which.
But you wont be crushed. You’ll never be crushed because He’s with you.
And he loves you. And he’ll care for you. And he’ll provide for you.
So this is a call to all of us. Me and you. Lets go. Lets speak. Lets act. Lets love. Lets step off what we know to be safe and secure, and step into a God and his will, knowing that there’s no wilder, safer place in the world.
Lets speak out right now that the best has YET to come, and then walk confidently and fearlessly into what’s next.
