Special edition, wooden DVDs handcrafted by MDFF co-founders Kazik Radwanski and Daniel Montgomery. The disc contains three of our short films that make up The MDF Trilogy: Assault (2007), Princess Margaret Blvd. (2008) and Out in that Deep Blue Sea (2009). With construction of the of the unit, we aim to achieve tangibility out of digital filmmaking and commemorate the works which have contributed to the development of our cinematographic practice and style. The case is made from a single sheet of medium density fiberboard that was individually cut, drilled, glued and sanded – complimenting the material that our production company was named after. Left unprotected by paint or varnish, the case displays scuffs and marks of its making and use, and in this way, emphasizes our focus on creating films with unique cinematic handwriting, personal stories, spontaneity and simplicity. We are simultaneously releasing the short films online for free, with the special edition DVD acting as a unique design object, a collectable for those wishing to contribute to our latest endeavour, TOWER. The DVD will contain two special features - a video essay by Christopher Heron of The 7th Art, and commentary for Out in that Deep Blue Sea by Adam Nayman.
