In 2011 Burning Man organized the first Circle of Regional Effigies project (CORE) by inviting regional events and regions to bring an effigy to Burning Man 2011. Twenty-two effigies were arranged in a circle around the man and burned simultaneously on Thursday night. The project and CORE were enjoyed by many participants and was considered very successful.
This design was conceived to mechanically have an effigy change colors over time as it burns. This will be done via time released eggs suspended within a tower. As the effigy burns the eggs will drop into the fire below. The eggs will contain typical chemical compounds that burn colors (red, green white, etc). The eggs will also serve as a means to involve the larger North Texas community in creating the effigy. There will be eight eggs total. Seven eggs will represent each year of NTXB’s Myschievia themes from 2005 – 2011. The eighth egg will represent the interaction of the 2012 Black Rock City Community. This effigy/art piece was derived over a period of several months in 2011. With the announcements of the Fertility 2.0 theme and the 2012 CORE project, we knew we had found a logical home for The Hatchery and its eggs.
