In the shadow of Machu Picchu in Peru's Andes lies the Salcantay trail. This trail is one of four main ways trekkers find their way to Machu Picchu, the most famous trail is the iconic Inca Trail. The Salcantay trail is growing in popularity as tourism in Peru has grown tremendously in the past decade. Families that live along the trail have watched tourism grow and they would like to be a part of that growth. This is the story of the Huari family who lives along the trail and currently works arieros or horsemen to the guiding companies. Their story gives us an idea as to the future of the trail.
