Jestico + Whiles were invited to participate in the international design competition for the new Doha College Campus. The College is seeking a world class facility that should represent the pinnacle of international school design, be at the forefront of environmental building design and accommodate the most innovative teaching and learning methods as well as the best facilities for pupils and staff.
The competition design solution suggests the notion of a single school for all ages “under one roof” with a common entrance, and dedicated wings for the primary and secondary phases of the school, each relating to the College’s varied outdoor learning environment. The design attempts to adapt the essence of a “British” school to the sands of the Arabian peninsula. It responds to the prevailing wind direction and the shading characteristics of the solar geometry of the site to promote a design solution that at different times of the year can employ varying degrees of passive and active technologies to provide a comfortable and inspiring internal environment.
