The 2012 Summer Institute, (educ.sfu.ca/gs/studentresearch/conf-events/summer-institute.html) hosted by the Faculty of Education at SFU opened on Thursday, July 12, 2012 with a Keynote presentation by Eric Jordan and Dr. Kevin O'Neill. Eric Jordan is a high-tech entrepreneur and one of the authors of the BC Premier's Technology Council report, "A Vision for 21st Century Education". Kevin O'Neill is an Associate Professor of Education and Technology, who has studied educational change and carried out classroom-based educational technology research since the early 1990s. Together they opened up a discussion with and between Institute attendees on the theme of 21st Century Learning. In the first part of the session, Eric discussed the Premier's Technology Council’s report, and Kevin shared the power and pitfalls of implementing visions. The two ended the evening by addressing questions about 21st Century Learning posted via the Twitter hashtag #bcedsfu along with a Q & A session with attendees.
