Ancestral Calling is a piece created for Unit Souzou’s performance project, Constant State of Otherness. Unit Souzou weaves stories, identities of people and place through taiko and dance. The project, Constant State of Otherness Project centers on the historical and divisive ways that othering has often pervasively and insidiously affected our communities. Amplifying stories is our fractal way of providing unheard narratives that might question, challenge, and disrupt the ‘mainstream’ definitions of identity. We hope the lens of personal experience builds bridges and frameworks of empathy.
