This is a story of three musicians, a 26-foot sailboat, 300+ miles of Texas coastline, 33 concerts in 38 days during an epic adventure to support a groundbreaking album and promote Texas independent music, coastal communities, sailing, environmental awareness, teamwork and more.
Formed in 2011 with the purpose of touring by sailboat and bicycle to promote their album Guitar Strings & Sailboat Things, musicians Marc Borde (Cassette Tape & Shark Attack), Ryan Beard (Mama Tried & Shark Attack) and Blake Plsek (Mama Tried) eventually settled with the name “The Crew” although they would often be referred to as “the band from the ICW (Intercoastal Waterway)” by spectators, dolphins and seagulls.
The Album: The Guitar Strings & Sailboat Things album was recorded onboard the 26-foot Alyzarian in the heat of the Texas summer with no special effects. The album is pure acoustic music and raw vocals enhanced by the natural ambience of the boat. It’s a folk-style album with a reggae bluegrass vibe that represents the Texas coast. A digital copy of Guitar Strings & Sailboat Things will be included in the soon-to-be-released book (first printing).
The BOOK: Marc Borde and The Crew share their epic voyage filled with adventure on the high seas. Its a true one-of-a-kind sailing adventure, but much more with chapters on topics ranging from booking a tour without a band to recording a album in a sailboat. Like the tour and album, the book is both 100% unique and promotes creativity, adventure, sports and entertainment. Shaped like a vinyl record cover and printed on old-school magazine stock to give it a retro feel, the book utilizes an aggressive layout style with visuals and Quick React Codes (QRC) allowing readers to access additional content in the form of videos, photo galleries and the complete Guitar Strings & Sailboat Things album on their mobile device and computer.
