188 days ago, I had never traveled outside of the United States. My name is Marcus Mancuso and I’m 21 years old. I’m a student at the California State University at Chico, where I’m working on a Communications Design Major with a focus on media arts and a photography minor. About a month into my time abroad, I got the crazy idea the idea to make a film to attempt to capture my experience. I wanted to show people what I saw and where I went during these 188 days. I wanted to make it feel scattered and serene, frantic and fantastic, euphoric and eclectic, beautiful and blurred. Because that is exactly how I will always remember it.
It has been an amazing experience being able to travel as much as I have, but I think I’m ready to stay in the same place for a little while. Unfortunately, now that I’ve gotten a little taste of the world, I know that soon enough I’ll be itching to start moving again. I’ll travel abroad again sometime but it will never be quite the same at my first 188 days beyond the Atlantic.
Music by Phoenix and Sigur Rós, which I do not own the rights for.
All video was shot on my Canon Powershot S95 Camera.
Make sure to watch it in HD!
