A truck hauling hay caught fire just after 3:30 p.m. Tuesday east of Hatchet summit. Within 10 minutes it had spread to nearby woods and Highway 299 was closed at 4 p.m. between the summit and Goose Mountain Road. The highway was reopened to one-way traffic at 6:18 p.m. Early estimates by fire officials listed the fire at under 5 acres. The fire never got close to the wind turbines and was only moving at moderate speed, fire officials noted.
