On 7-27-2012 I finally got to Fly Burney Mountain. This is a volcanic mountain that is right in front of the popular site, Hat Creek, which is between Mt. Shasta and Mt. Lassen. Because of high winds, this site is only good for early morning sled rides. Launch is 7,863 and the LZ is 4,690, so about 3,200 vertical. For paragliders the LZ is big enough for pilots with good approach skills. Hang Gliders used to fly here more, but it is a bit dicey size-wise and new small trees have pushed the LZ to "extreme skills" class for HG pilots.
