An audiovisual experience created using Artificial Intelligence.

Artificial Intelligence is becoming a part of everyone's lives. It powers our virtual assistants, recommends us new music to listen to, complements our doctors with medical advice and will soon drive our cars more safely than we ever could.
And yet, AI also catches a lot of rightful criticism that points at the potential dangers in case these tools are used by the wrong people.
In this visual journey, I wanted to expose an entirely different side of this emerging technology. The side that enhances our ability to imagine and create new experiences and compliments our human intellect with a surprisingly different point of view.
To start off this work I sat together with Reid and we discussed the visual theme we wanted to create for this track. I then collected thousands of images that encapsulated the style we were looking for. Next, I “trained” my AI model to learn from these images and generate new content in the same visual theme using a technique called “Generative Adversarial Networks”. In this process, the machine is constantly producing new and unexpected scenery which I then use to tweak various parameters of the training process that influence what the AI produces next. This way, a fascinating feedback loop emerges where man and machine complement each other to create the final piece. The AI does not fully create the work, and neither do I. It is very much a collaboration.
