While most of us know not to partake in nor tolerate bullying behavior on a day to day level, how does 'systemic' racism, sexism, and inequality affect the way we live together? Musicworks director Jesse Neuman leads us through a critical listening and discussion of Maimouna Youssef's poetry and performance with Common's 'August Greene' ensemble. Along the way she speaks about her treatment as a Black woman, highlighting the in injustices she faces around the issues of power, respect, fame, and perception as an artist. (grades 5-8)
