Jury Selection 2012 Los Angeles Brazilian Film Festival
"The Painter of Peace" is a short subject documentary about the renowned Brazilian artist, Candido Portinari (1903-1962), and the creation of his most monumental work, the "War" and "Peace" murals. The murals, which are part of the United Nations Art Collection, are currently on loan and are being exhibited in Brazil for the first time since their creation over 50 years ago. The film is comprised entirely of archival footage and photographs that show Portinari in the process of creating his masterwork, their inauguration at the U.N. building in New York, and of their restauration and exhibition in Brazil.
