** UPDATE ** You can see this video up close and personal at the Lumen Prize Exhibition, starting in London 23rd January 2013. Please visit the website lumenprize.com/exhibition for details. I hope to see you there!.
This 6 minute piece of video art is a segment of the London 2012 games, created using a re-engineered digital TV to create a overlapping matrix of light, recorded on my iPhone in HD.
It runs for 360 seconds; each second representing a degree of the Earth's surface, to highlight the global span and participation of the event.
The title 'Maps of the Future Mind' refers to the information that is imprinted upon the viewer, whether that information is conscious or subconscious...the mind makes an electrical signal much like a TV receiver, which is then decoded into mental imagery.
This work intends to show a glimpse of the inner workings.
The matrix of horizontal and vertical lines act as a digital latitude and longitude, with shifting colour and light hypnotically sweeping across this digital map. This kaleidoscope of colour is created by human movement on screen adding beauty to what is in effect a series of artificially created lines.... organic impulses and digital information becoming one.
