This is from the July 24, 2012 Q&A Webinar for Make The Cut!
00:00:00 Welcoming Remarks
00:00:05 Where to find the MTC “Store” for cutter supplies, etc?
00:04:40 ? regarding “View Path Detail” and the “Processing Window” when cutting – there appears to be a discrepancy in the number of nodes and points contained in the file and being cut – Why is that? Bryan explains why and recommends that users do a “flatten path” before sending a large file to the cutter
00:11:33 User had a problem with the width and height of an image not changing when trying to resize it – Bryan explains things to look for that could be causing the problem
00:17:20 Discussion on what is the best file format for taking files from another program into Make the Cut (Illustrator, Inkscape, Corel Draw, Photoshop, etc.) (Bryan said preferred is SVG because it provides a vector graphic, if SVG not available then 2nd best is PNG or GIFF with a transparent background)
00:21:54 If you have an SVG file that you want to easily be separated into layers or by color when imported into MTC, they should be “grouped” by color in the original program before saving out to an SVG file. Also reviews the “DPI” settings needed to import at correct sizes from different programs.
00:26:00 Do you need Inkscape in order to cut an SVG file from within MTC? (Short answer is no)
00:27:25 Follow-up from 7/17/12 Webinar on creating a “Pen & Cut” or “Drawing” with your cutter and then cutting it out with your cutter by using a rectangle for “registration” when no registration marks are available. (Note: When using a “pen” to draw or write with in your cutter, offset should be set to “0” and then changed back when you switch to actual blade for cutting, also may need to adjust the speed and pressure used for drawing versus cutting)

00:40:40 Bryan reviews where to find previously recorded Webinars, how to download them from Vimeo, and how to use the timestamps
00:49:00 Review of ? from forum regarding a user trying to cut a multi-layered “print and cut” file but the size is not matching because registration marks are not matching up (using a background image to “cut” with but not wanting that image to “print” (see also thread from forum here: forum.make-the-cut.com/discussion/26087/size-on-mat-and-cut-size-not-the-same-resolved)
00:57:50 Putting registration marks on the printed project or on the visual mat
01:00:00 Exactly what do you mean by a “Print and Cut” – Do you mean I can print a colored image from my computer and then have MTC cut it out? Bryan demos how “Print and Cut” works with MTC
01:05:38 Quick Review of how to do a “Pixel trace” of an image for use in doing a “print and cut” (Note: make sure that you click to “texturize path” and “apply” to import correctly; Also Note: Large Raster files can slow down or possibly crash your system as they are memory hogs)
01:08:40 User having problem getting MTC to “register” or activate as a purchased copy. Bryan reviews things to check. (Note: If purchased a Zing, the # on the CD envelope is NOT the registration #, it is an “activation code” used to obtain the actual registration # needed to input into the software!) You can send an email to email@example.com or go to make-the-cut.com/lostRegKey.aspx
For help with registration problems (Also Note: Version 2.2.1 cannot be registered, contact firstname.lastname@example.org for assistance should you have this version)
01:14:00 User having trouble seeing the full image in “print preview” – Bryan reviews some of the possible causes and fixes to this problem
01:16:59 can I sell or give away an OLD version of MTC that I have – (short answer: If previously registered, it is NOT Transferable – if you have a copy from a machine purchase that has never been registered (because you already had a registered copy) then you can sell, give away, transfer that copy)
01:18:44 User is having problem cutting – it always seems to “snag” or have a problem in the same area of the mat – Bryan reviews things to look for visually on the mat that can be causing the problem
01:23:32 Eraser Tool – User has problem when using the eraser tool, sometimes other areas are unexpectedly changed – Bryan explains why this might happen and suggests that you turn OFF Auto simplify Welds (Note: at start of conversation, Bryan says turn on, but in the conversation and at the end he says to turn it OFF – OFF is correct statement)
01:32:50 Optional Zing Pen Holder – Can it accommodate different size pens? Also discusses using larger pen/markers without a holder. Additional discussion as to why one would to use a pen holder and the “test” pen that came with the Zing
01:45:49 How to make an A2 size card with MTC (4.25” x 5.5”) (half the size of an 8/1” x 11” piece of paper) – Bryan demonstrates creating an A2 stencil edge card with score line (he also discusses ways to “score” the fold line with the cutter). He shows how to add a “print and cut” image to the card, print it and then cut the card. (See also MTC_Tuts Yahoo Group, 1st lesson in the Basics Folder found here: groups.yahoo.com/group/MTC_Tuts/files/02_Basic%20Lessons/ II.01_UsingShapesinMTC.pdf that helps a user create an A2 card in MTC
