This woman is a powerhouse... of energy, of life, of film. A visit with her is like a lesson in all things passion for film. A great memory with refreshing honesty, Sandra continues to be a leading light in film for Australian women.
Sandra Sdraulig was MIFF Director for four years from 1997. Walking into an almost empty office she called on every reserve as she deftly crafted MIFF's new modern look, seemingly without fear. She brought the festival to a broader audience by engaging with film-lovers as well as film-goers. She increased attendance figures, put the programme in The Age, ran workshops and specialist programmes by 'coolifying' the language of the festival.
Her film cred is secure as she spruiks Victoria as a fabulous film location, interviews her peers for Friday on My Mind for AFTRS (Australian Film TV and Radio School ) at ACMI (Australian Centre of the Moving Image), and also chairs the Adelaide Film Festival.
This woman is simply unstoppable. She's been the CEO of Film Victoria (2002 to 2011), Film Distribution & Marketing Manager for Palace Entertainment (1992-1996) and Distribution Manager for the Australian Film Institute (1988-1992)
Sandra was recently appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for her leadership and services to the Australian film industry. Well deserved. See sandrasdraulig.com/
