The Kermadec exhibition celebrates the voyage of nine artists to one of the last great ocean wilderness areas on the planet. The Kermadec islands lie at the south western corner of the Polynesian Triangle, the base of which is completed by Rapa Nui in the southeast. This connection, spanning over 6,500 kilometers, is reflected in a shared language and culture that links the ancient Polynesian voyagers who traversed the Pacific.
For those of us whose islands are contained within the embrace of the Pacific, the Kermadec exhibition is an opportunity to contemplate anew the ocean space that surrounds us and the threads of nature, history, and culture that connect us to each other and the future health of our shared ocean.
This video documents the opening of the exhibition on Rapa Nui in July 2012.
