There is a growing interest in the game of soccer here in the US. Major League Soccer is expanding at a rate unseen before; the players are getting better and the fans are getting bigger. As a vigilant supporter and sponsor of the MLS and the DC United team, Volkswagen recognizes the part that this sport will play in our nation’s future. In an effort to give back to the sport and support its growth, they have placed a ton of their attention on the grass roots. Every year Volkswagen holds the Jr. Masters Tournament. It’s a national tournament, where youth teams from all over the U.S. get a chance to come and prove themselves on a national platform, with a huge sponsor! Being able to witness the heart and dedication of these young athletes was really inspiring!
In the planning of this shoot, with the marketing team for Volkswagen, they had expressed to us the story they wanted told and it quickly became very apparent to us that this was all for the kids and for the future of the sport. We were given the challenge by V.W. to really help the audience feel the hunger for winning and the excitement that these boys have to play on the soil of a national tournament. We knew in order to put the audience on the sidelines of the field, there were a few things that had to be perfect. The natural audio for the players, coaches and refs had be present. A representation of the fierce competition and grueling temperatures had to be present in the players actions and cinematography. And the triumphs had to be celebrated in both the seeing the champs win the final game, but also to see the them enjoy a night of professional soccer at the MLS All Star game.
This is one of our favorite projects that we have had the chance to work on in the recent past. And we are proud of the end result! We hope you enjoy!!
