A short song for the nocturnal visions preliminary to sleep.
Made using 35mm film and a digital photo scanner. By scratching the unexposed color film emulsion and then applying acrylic pigment to the scratches, I was able to create flares of color on an otherwise dark field.Moving these hand-painted film frames through the photo scanner at high speeds led to the color streaking which creates the vertical bands that characterize the piece's composition.
This is the third moving image I've made using an approach that mixes analog film with digital technologies, as a result they are part film and part video. I'm not sure what to call them.
