The Yarn Bomb Yukon Collective has been busy assembling and sewing together the DC-3 Yarn Bomb. The Yarn Bomb is tentatively scheduled to go on the DC-3 on August 11 (weather permitting) where it will be on view for approximately 10 days.
Yarn Bomb Yukon Collective is going to yarn bomb the DC-3 plane owned by the Yukon Transportation Museum. This interactive art project is created in partnership with the Yukon Transportation Museum and the Yukon Arts Centre Public Art Gallery and funded by Arts Fund. The idea for the project came from Casey McLaughlin, Director and Curator for the Yukon Transportation Museum and the project was taken on by the Yarn Bomb Yukon Collective.
The purpose of this interactive public art project is to transform a historic aircraft into a large scale public art project, to foster an appreciation for fibre arts, and to teach the lifelong skill knitting and crocheting techniques to adults and children. Once the project is complete, blankets will be donated to local charities and shelters.
