This is from the August 07, 2012 Q&A Webinar for Make The Cut!
00:00:00 Welcoming Remarks
00:00:55 SusanBlueRobot’s Demo of a “slice form” card that also folds flat for mailing (see also Susan’s blog posts regarding this demo (note: there are 2 parts): susanbluerobot.blogspot.com.au/2012/08/part-one-susanbluerobot-sliceform.html and susanbluerobot.blogspot.com.au/2012/08/part-two-susanbluerobot-sliceform.html)
00:36:00 How to create a “wheel card” postponed from the 7/31/12 Webinar
Julie’s Demo on creating a “wheel card” (see also Julie’s written tutorial lesson III.36_Make A Wheel Card_JF.pdf that can be found here: groups.yahoo.com/group/MTC_Tuts/files/03_Intermediate_Lessons/
also the thread noting she posted the cut file in the gallery here:
as well as the original thread by user asking how to create this type of card here:
01:29:45 Is there a way to control the cutting “order” – Bryan discusses the basic rules on how MTC cuts – it cuts the interior shapes and lines first and then open paths and then the parent shapes – there is presently no other way to control the cutting order without using the “layers” feature to cut different layers at different times
01:32:03 Bryan demonstrates how to create a cutting file for placement on a round charger plate (Text on the rim and an image in the middle of the plate)
01:48:10 Bryan demonstrates what the “Merge Paste” function does on the “New Page” menu
01:54:26 SVG Files obtained from a source online – look fine in Inkscape but appear “wonky” when opening them in MTC – also not retaining colors or layers properly – Examples of files shared in the MTC Webinar thread here: forum.make-the-cut.com/discussion/26387/august-7th-webinar-over-what-questions-or-topics-do-you-have (see post by dimahi (6th posted ? after Bryan’s initial posts) )– Bryan explains why this problem occurs (problem appears in Inkscape versions 0.47 or higher) and explains how to “fix” the problem in Inkscape (Note: in Inkscape - go to FileInkscape PreferencesSVG outputPath Data and CHECK the “allow relative coordinates” and UNCHECK the” force repeat commands” and save your changes) – Then move file right, down, left, up and resave. This particular file also has some open nodes that need to be closed, Bryan show how to do a “fuse and weld” to fix the open nodes
02:00:24 SVG files from Inkscape not importing layers or color correctly (continuation from 01:54:26 files above) – “layers” in Inkscape are not “layers” as in MTC – in order to retain and import “layers” and groups of “color” – you must first save each layer or group of color as a “group” rather than simple a “layer” within Inkscape before saving to an SVG file (select all items wanted in a “group” and then do a Control G)
02:05:07 Is there a select by fill or color fill option in Inkscape? (No)
02:10:10 ? on doing a Pixel tracing with texture versus no texture postponed until the 8/14/12 Webinar but then Bryan gives a very brief review of the problem being asked about
02:11:57 How to find old MTC Webinar Question Threads to review topics and find the files or pictures that were attached – Bryan shows how to find using his username – you can also go to the search box and type in the date and MTC Webinar
02:15:00 User ?s from online Webinar attendee (not listed in the thread) wanted to know where to find help in using MTC – looking for manuals, tutorials, etc. – Bryan shows how to find the MTC manual in MTC its self by going to the Help menu. (Note: the 1st two chapters of the manual deal with the Zing – starting with Chapter 3 it is how to use MTC which will apply to all users no matter the cutter) You can also find links to videos there. Also shows how to find previously recorded Webinars and other tutorials in some Yahoo groups like MTC_Tuts.
User also wanted to know about cameo “calibration” – Bryan discusses how MTC calibrates the “resolution” with the Silhouette machines but that there is no “offset” calibration like a user does when using a machine with a laser registration.
