ORNIS - a duo between by Sabine Vogel on flute, live electronics and field recordings and Kathy Hinde projecting visuals onto ice.
Sound and image were improvised live in the unique setting of the empty North Birstol Baths on July 31st 2012. With special thanks to Artspce Lifespace for securing the use of such a special space.
Sabine Vogel takes the sounds from the inside of her flute - the microcosm of her flute world – and transports these sounds, with the help of amplification, into a sound-able-hear-able world. Bringing what is inside into the outside. She then combines this world of sound with self-made field recordings - the natural macrocosm of existing sound, forming a composed mixture between the macro and microcosmic.
Kathy Hinde mixes together timelapse movies of ice melting, light on the surface of water, birds taking off, waterfalls, drips, and other ephemeral natural phenomena all projected onto screens of ice that melt away during the performance. For this performance, a feed from a live camera on the ice was projected onto a larger screen to show a closer view of the surface of the ice.
