In his residency, Dr. Alan Dappen read a peer-reviewed paper suggesting that 80% of office visits were not necessary. It took 20 years of experience practicing medicine before he realized that most of his patients were only coming into the office as a tradition and so that he could be paid. In 2001, he quit his job at a traditional family practice and started DocTalker Family Medicine (, an award-winning family medical practice where the medical team talks directly to the patient, 24/7 -- nights and weekends, too. DocTalker Family Medicine offers affordable, quality care conveniently via phone or email consultations, same-day office visits and even house calls. This short video is Dr. Alan Dappen’s take on a decade of practicing telemedicine.
This film was produced for the 2012 American Telemedicine Association Video Contest.
