60 years ago: Kennedy elected Nov. 11 1960

On 11 November 1960 John Fitzgerald Kennedy is elected President of the United States after one of the most exciting election battles. The defeat of Vice-President Richard M. Nixon, does not become official until the afternoon of the day following the election. Mr Kennedy becomes the youngest man ever elected to the highest office in the country.
