This film is considered the only production about the black velvet painting business and a lasting memorial to Mr. Doyle Harten, entrepreneur.
Standing next to the John Wayne painting is the main distributor of black velvet art in the United States, Doyle Harten, owner of Chico Arts in El Paso, Texas. Mr. Harten provided access to his warehouse, offices and to the painters across the border in Juarez, Mexico. Originally filmed in the summer of 1991 and then re-edited in 2001.
Black Velvet Art is proud to feature the early work of the accomplished guitarist/songwriter for last 30 years Reeves Gabrels (Mr. Galbrels was the guitarist /songwriter for David Bowie's Time Machine and currently with The Cure) and Tom Dube (Boston musician, not sure where he is today).
