Mercy Ministries and Nancy Alcorn at Glorious 2008 Women’s Conference

Nancy Alcorn is the Founder and President of Nashville-based Mercy Ministries, a faith-based program founded in 1983. The caring, experienced staff at Mercy Ministries is committed to helping young women from who have experienced physical and sexual abuse, struggling with eating disorders or substance abuse, or facing an unplanned pregnancy. Services are offered completely free of charge to young women 13-28 at four different Mercy Ministries locations in the United States, thanks to the generosity of Mercy Ministries supporters.

Nancy Alcorn, Mercy Ministries: So we have to shake off the junk from the past and declare who we are in Him and live life that way. Jesus came to heal the brokenhearted. If there are areas of sin in your life, through confession and repentance, you close the door and the enemy no longer has the right to come and mess with you. Then you stand up and fight him in the authority you’ve been given in Jesus’ name. If you try to fight him in your flesh then you are going down!

Nancy Alcorn, Mercy Ministries: She (Mercy Ministries graduate) tried for 30 years to overcome a drug addiction in her flesh. Then in one moment, through choosing life and having someone in Jesus’ name proclaim you free in Jesus, and I break that spirit of addiction off your life in Jesus’ name, she is walking free today. Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, not even our flesh and blood. Okay?

Nancy Alcorn, Mercy Ministries: So we have to let the Greater One come in and then we understand who we are and we take authority. For example, if someone continues to dabble on the Internet in the pornography deal then they are going to stir up all of that and the door is going to be open. But if you confess it as sin, repent, get washed and cleansed in the blood and then you close the door and you don’t go looking at that anymore. Then Satan no longer has a legal door or a legal right or an open door to come in and torment you.

Nancy Alcorn, Mercy Ministries: And through forgiveness we forgive the people who have hurt us and then that open door of torment over our lives that’s opened through unforgiveness, we’re released from that and then we’re free. And hopefully we begin to pray for the people that… You know, I don’t like that Scripture that says bless those that persecute you. But you know what I found out: if I bless the people because I choose to, forgiveness is not a feeling, it’s a decision of obedience. And blessing your enemies is not a feeling, it’s a decision to obey God.

Nancy Alcorn, Mercy Ministries: What I found out, if I choose to do it, then God begins to give me compassion. And pretty soon God has me praying for them to get saved and I really mean it and it’s not a faith statement. But it starts with a faith statement, trust me.

Nancy Alcorn, Mercy Ministries: So then the other area which I’ve already been talking about, we’ve got to replace lies with the truth, the truth of God’s Word. Psalm 119, He orders our steps in His Word, His Word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. And you say, “Well, I just don’t know how I’m going to be able to do this.” The psalmist says in Psalm 119, “Thy Word, Oh Lord, have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against you.” You’ve got to confess the Word of God over your life. It might run against everything that is in you to take the Word of God and say, “Lord, I thank you that the Spirit of the Lord God is upon me because God has anointed me”. But you need to speak that over yourself until it becomes a reality. You need to know that the Great One lives.

Nancy Alcorn, Mercy Ministries: Don’t just read it! Speak it over your life! Confess it! Declare it! Decree it! Your ears need to hear your mouth say it. Faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the Word of God! Hearing it over and over and over! I just don’t want him to torment you any longer. I don’t want you to live in the bondage and shame of your past. For your former shame, He will give you double honor! That’s what the Word says! That’s what the Word says!

Nancy Alcorn, Mercy Ministries: Okay, all of you that stood up awhile ago and said you’re ready to stand up, Jesus sat at the right hand of the Father, and said I’m ready to stand up and some of you did already have many more years before I did. But let’s just all as an act of faith do it together right now. Just, stand up. Just stand up!
