‘CRAP SURFER’ THE MOVIE
Taking a hilarious look at the ‘alternative’ surf scene, ‘Crap Surfer’ (the movie) is a new short documentary filmed in summer 2012 in Cornwall, UK.
In with a chance of winning a prestigious award at the upcoming ‘London Surf Film Festival’ ‘Crap Surfer’ has been directed by passionate surfer and leading filmmaker Nicky Woodhouse, of London-based production company, ‘Woodhouse TV’.
The five minute documentary uncovers the unique talent of the World Champion of Crap Surfing, Bill Bankes- Jones as he attempts to defend his title at the third world championship event in, Praa Sands Cornwall.
Nicky Woodhouse the filmmaker behind ‘Crap Surfer’ is a surf obsessive and self confessed ‘crap surfer’, - who despite living in East London - gets in the water across the South West of England whenever she can. Over countless weekends surfing in North Devon and Cornwall she is continually amused by the line up banter of novice surfers under the illusion they are Kelly Slater incarnate; "There is a certain amount of ego and bravado that seems to go with surfing that I think is really intimidating and off putting. When I learnt there was a World Championship of Crap Surfing that clearly poked fun at this macho image, I knew I had to make a film about it. The vast majority of us that surf in the UK are quite crap and we need to get over ourselves. Having a bit of a laugh will hopefully expand interest and make surfing more accessible."
Crap Surfer is the second surf film Woodhouse TV has made, and was shot by producer William Johns. Crap Surfer was screened at the London Surf Film Festival 2012 and the Cornish Film Festival 2012. Woodhouse TV has created video content for a wide range of clients including The Prince's Foundation, Gwyneth Paltrow's “Goop” and David Cameron’s ‘Webcameron.'
