In this video clip I have used two separate pieces of underscore to try and convey different messages, and support the visual imagery. The first is an instrumental piece by Foals called ‘XCFAVA’, which gives some of the shots of penguins a lighthearted, and juvenile feel. By slicing the track up I’ve managed to bring focus to some of my cue points. The second piece of music I have used is called ‘Elegy for Tramway’ by Beneath Us, The Waves. This is much more classical piece and is not out of place on this sort of documentary, it helps add poignancy to the penguins situation. Again I have spliced the audio to make sure it aligns with key cue points.
As well as adding an underscore I have also used a number of sound effects like wind, waves, and penguin squarks.
I have attempted to link the variety of images in this video using a sample of some eerie reversed audio taken from the second track I am using for the underscore, it gives an impression of space in the mix. I have used it at the begin of the video with the shot of the earth, and the panning shot of the mountain tops. I have also used it as I faded out the first track and brought up the second halfway through the video. To complete the link I have used it at the end of the clip on the sweeping footage of the mountain tops.
